Happy first blog post of 2020! Things have been kind of a blur the past few weeks with wrapping up the year and traveling back home for the holidays, all with a newborn! Now that we're back home, and back to normal routine (is there ever really normal routine though?!) I took some time to assess the changes that need to happen, and plan out my goals for the year. Of course, I know that things will change and am staying flexible, I do like to map out my plans and goals to give myself some structure. Are you guys into making New Years resolutions? I guess there are pros and cons to them. But I digress...
One of the things on my to-do list has been to tackles the downstairs guest room. Technically this is my husband's study, and we have a guest bedroom upstairs, but we wanted to have another option for overnight guests since we do host family pretty often. In case you're new here, we moved to Houston last year, and both our families are all in California, so there's pretty frequent back and forth.
One of my go-to sources for high quality brand name home decor is Tuesday Morning. I first started shopping there when we lived in Redondo Beach, and was happy to find several locations not far from where we live here in Houston now. The prices are really unbeatable, and the selection is always pretty good.
For this space, I wanted to make sure the bedding worked well with the mustard linen sleeper sofa, but also add a bit of contrast to the masculine deep blue and leather tones. The first item I found was a pale blush sheet set -- it was 100% cotton and under $40, which checked off all my boxes. From there, I added a mustard quilted coverlet, and a pair of down pillows. I always find that a good nights sleep is impossible without good pillows, so its worth a splurge here! The ones I chose were only $40, which is unheard of for the quality!
To complete the look, I added a couple mauve toned throw pillows and layered a cream colored throw. I love how the velvet pillows add texture, and subtle pattern. And I always add some greenery and a candle as a final touch, it makes such a difference in creating a warm and welcoming space for guests!
Overall, I am really happy with how the room turned out, and the accent pillows and throw can dress up the sofa even when it's not being used as a sleeper. If you're looking to refresh your own home, I would definitely recommend starting with Tuesday Morning first, especially since there's probably a location near you!
